The 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) First Committee on Disarmament and International Security took place from 3 October to 4 November 2022 in New York City.
First Committee deals with all disarmament and security matters that affect the international community. It provides space for member states to exchange their views on disarmament-related considerations and allow for collaboration in order to seek out common agreements to the challenges posed by weapons – from conventional weapons to weapons of mass destruction.
The Chair-elect of the First Committee was Amb. Magzhan Ilyassov, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations.
The formal meetings of the First Committee were web-casted live on UN Web TV.
IANSA and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) coordinated all civil society statements for First Committee 2022.
Reaching Critical Will (RCW), WILPF’s disarmament programme, has published a First Committee 2022 briefing book and Monitor. Subscribe to RCW’s First Committee Monitor here. RCW uploaded statements, resolutions, documents and more to their dedicated First Committee webpage.
