Seventh Biennial Meeting of States on the United Nations Programme of Action on Small Arms (BMS7)



Pursuant to the resolution A/RES/75/241, the Seventh Biennial Meeting of States (BMS7) took place from 26 to 30 July 2021. Biennial Meetings of States have the mandate to consider the national, regional and global implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (PoA) and its International Tracing Instrument (ITI). BMS is a conference to review the progress made in the implementation of the PoA. Additionally, States have held Meetings of Governmental Experts (MGE) to benefit from the knowledge of technical specialists on matters pertaining to small arms and light weapons control.

The Chair of the BMS7 2021 Conference is H.E. Mr. Martin Kimani, PhD, EBS, of Kenya.

IANSA is the official coordinator of  civil society participation in BMS7 2021. Civil society participation is took place virtually/online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to ensure the safety and health guidelines implemented at the UN Headquarters.
