United Nations General Assembly First Committee: Disarmament and International Security 2025

The 80th session of the UN General Assembly First Committee on Disarmament and International Security is scheduled to meet in New York from 8 October to 7 November 2025. The draft programme of work will be confirmed in October. An organizational meeting will take place on 3 October 2025.

First Committee deals with all disarmament and security matters that affect the international community. It provides space for member states to exchange their views on disarmament-related considerations and allow for collaboration in order to seek out common agreements to the challenges posed by weapons – from conventional weapons to weapons of mass destruction.

The Chairperson for the session will be Ambassador Maurizio Massari of Italy.

IANSA and  Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom’s (WILPF) disarmament chapter Reaching Critical Will will be coordinating Civil Society participation and statements.

The formal meetings of the First Committee will be web-casted live on UN Web TV.
