United Nations General Assembly First Committee: Disarmament and International Security 2024



The 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) First Committee on Disarmament and International Security is scheduled to take place from 7 October to 8 November 2024 in New York City.

First Committee deals with all disarmament and security matters that affect the international community. It provides space for member states to exchange their views on disarmament-related considerations and allow for collaboration in order to seek out common agreements to the challenges posed by weapons – from conventional weapons to weapons of mass destruction.

The Chair of the First Committee at its seventy-ninth session is Ambassador Maritza Chan-Valverde, Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the United Nations.
