The 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) First Committee on Disarmament and International Security will start on 4 October and end around 5 November 2021.
First Committee deals with all disarmament and security matters that affect the international community. It provides space for member states to exchange their views on disarmament-related considerations and allow for collaboration in order to seek out common agreements to the challenges posed by weapons – from conventional weapons to weapons of mass destruction.
The formal meetings of the First Committee are webcast live on UN Web TV.
Live coverage of the formal meetings is available in the six UN official languages plus the original language of the speaker. Archive videos are also available on a dedicated Committee page.
IANSA has contributed its analysis and recommendations on small arms and light weapons (SALW) in an article written by Dr. Natalie Goldring and published in the Reaching Critical Will 2021 First Committee Briefing Book, available below.
