Women Against Gun Violence (WAGV)

Over 27 years ago, Women Against Gun Violence (WAGV) was created after acclaimed feminist Betty Friedan approached WAGV founder Ann Reiss Lane with the challenge of taking meaningful action to stem the public health epidemic of gun violence affecting communities.  The women and men who make up WAGV’s Board of Directors have taken on that challenge and then some through both its program work and through legislative action.

Women Against Gun Violence has long recognized that guns in the hands of anyone, including law enforcement, escalate tensions and increase the opportunity for violence.  Guns rarely advance conversation and resolution.    That is why over the decades we have argued for gun regulations that don’t exempt law enforcement from their purview.   That is why over the decades we have built strong coalitions with organizations that work with under-served populations.  And that is why over the decades we have developed and implemented programs that help keep families safe from gun violence.
