Servicio Paz y Justicia del Ecuador (SERPAJ)
El Servicio Paz y Justicia/The Peace and Justice Service is a social organization, of Christian-ecumenical inspiration, which aims to promote the values of Peace, Nonviolence and a culture founded on the full recognition of Human Rights. Together with the National Secretariats of Serpaj Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Colombia, El Salvador and Uruguay, the National Secretariat of Argentina forms the SERPAJ-Latin America, who, as a third degree organization , is an advisory member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a consultative entity of UNESCO.
Created in 1980 with Adolfo Pérez Esquivel; who focuses its efforts on creating an entity committed to society, capable of responding to a situation of injustice and violence – in different areas – by building a culture of peace based on Non-Violence and Conscientious Objection.
As a fundamental role, it seeks to become a purposeful space for the promotion and education of peace, human rights, conscientious objection and the resolution of conflicts with non-violent methods, aimed at society in general and the less favored social sectors.
Through a process of accompaniment and monitoring of different popular organizations, it has been possible to generate actions framed in active non-violence; promoting a current that permanently favors citizen participation and democratic construction.
SERPAJ Latin America has a presence in eleven countries, having to point out its links with different movements: Latin American Network of Education for Peace and Human Rights, Global Network, The International of War Resisters (IRG), Coalition Latin America for the Prevention of Armed Violence (CLAVE); and, in Ecuador, with the Ecuadorian Front for Human Rights.
Mission:
Promote the exercise and socialization of the principles of conscientious objection and active non-violence to achieve a society where knowledge, power and having are exercised in a fair and equitable manner, and promote human-centered development.
