Campaña del Lazo Blanco (LAC)

The Campaña del Lazo Blanco/White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) is the largest effort by men in the world working to end violence against women.

The White Ribbon Campaign began in Canada, under the coordination of Michael Kaufman.
In that country, at the end of the 1980s, an event -such as the case of Ana Orantes in Spain- had shocked everyone: on December 6, 1989, 14 adolescents had been murdered for the mere fact of pursuing a career for men : the murderer, shouting “feminists”, entered the faculty and killed them. From that date on, a group of men thought they had a responsibility to get involved and involve other men in doing something so that things like this didn’t happen anymore, and the first thing was to stop being silent. In 1991 they inaugurated the first campaign of the white ribbon, symbol of peace, coinciding with the week of December 6.

The campaign has continued to be carried out every year in that week, also around other dates, such as Father’s Day, Women’s Day or the day against violence against women. The campaign has now been transformed into an NGO that offers its proposals to those who request it, directed especially against violence against women, but also against male violence against other men and boys and girls.
Today 2009 takes place in 90 countries of the planet, our already agreed intention is to carry out the Rio de la Plata Campaign, including men, organizations and institutions from both countries.
