IANSA has created an animated video to raise awareness and urge for ALL voices to be heard to unite against gun violence and create a safer world for all.
Gun violence affects millions of people across many countries every day. This video highlights the risk factors and consequences of gun violence which is leading to the destruction of lives and livelihoods. In particular, poor gun control laws are enabling easy access to uncontrolled guns and fueling their irresponsible use.
IANSA highlights the gendered impacts of gun violence and how men and boys, and women and girls are affected. Men and older boys commit most gun homicides and killings in armed conflicts, yet most men and boys don’t have guns. Women and girls fall victims to gun violence from male domestic violence and lack access to basic living needs, yet they are not equally involved in gun control work with men.
This video asks the question: How can we work together to prevent gun violence and keep everyone safe? Because gun violence has gendered impacts, gender-responsive solutions to gun violence are urgently needed. ALL voices, especially of those most affected, must be heard in disarmament and security decision-making processes.
Get involved in the campaign against gun violence. It starts with you!
Watch the video on IANSA’s Youtube channel here: English subtitles, French subtitles, Spanish subtitles.
IANSA has paired this animated video with our informative booklet on abusive masculine behaviour and gender-based gun violence. We recommend viewing the video as an introduction and then using the interactive booklet for discussion and reflection. The informative booklet is available here.
