IANSA Toolkit on Small Arms and Light Weapons and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (September 2025)

IANSA is pleased to announce the release of our new publication: the Toolkit on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda. This resource has been developed to strengthen understanding of the vital connections between arms control and gender-responsive peace and security efforts.

The toolkit explores how the WPS agenda and SALW control intersect, offering concrete strategies to integrate these areas in policy, programming, and advocacy. It provides analysis of UN resolutions, national and regional action plans, and key policy frameworks, and illustrates how these can be leveraged to promote safer, more inclusive societies. Practical tools, examples, and recommendations are included to support civil society organizations, policymakers, and advocates in advancing implementation of WPS and SALW commitments.

Importantly, the toolkit reflects contributions and perspectives from across the IANSA network, ensuring that diverse experiences and regional realities are represented. It is designed to be a practical, user-friendly reference that can support advocacy campaigns, capacity-building, and engagement with governments and international processes.

We look forward to learning how this resource supports your activities and to continuing collaboration in advancing gender-responsive small arms control and the broader WPS agenda.
