Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence 2017-2019

The Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence (WoA) is an opportunity to advocate collectively for an end to the proliferation and misuse of small arms and light weapons. The WoA against Gun Violence is a campaign launched by IANSA in 2003. In 2001, all Member States of the United Nations agreed to an important new framework for cooperation on small arms called the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (PoA). Under the PoA, governments agreed to improve national small arms laws, import/export controls, and stockpile management, and to engage in cooperation and assistance. Campaign dates vary by year.

Under the theme “Rise up for Humanity: Control the Guns,” IANSA members and friends across the world joined in the 2019 Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence by holding seminars and press conferences, meeting with government officials, organizing marches, working with youth and educators, and more.

The 2017 Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence followed the theme of “The Road to Development and Peace begins with Silencing the Guns.”
