Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence ends with more than 90 countries involved
This has been the most successful Week of Action yet, with more than 300 events in over 90 countries. The week included the successful launch of the Disarming Domestic Violence campaign, and strong global support for active participation in the Arms Trade Treaty.


12 June

Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence: more than 80 countries involved
From 15-21 June, activists in more than 80 countries will use the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence to raise awareness, campaign for better gun laws and push for stronger regulation of the global arms trade. Civil society organisations, governments and UN agencies will organise events to draw attention to the human toll of small arms proliferation and misuse.


7 June

EU countries sold weapons to Sri Lanka?
EU countries licenced military equipment to the Sri Lankan Government in the last three years of the war against the Tamil Tigers, according to the London paper The Times. The licences were cleared despite the EU Code of Conduct on Arms Exports, which prohibits transfers to countries facing internal conflicts or with poor human rights records.

Pablo Dreyfus, life saving researcher, dies in plane
We have learned that three members of the global movement against gun violence were on the Air France flight that went missing on 1 June while flying from Brazil to France.
