2008 UN Biennial Meeting of States on Small Arms

Governments met at the United Nations in New York from 14-18 July to discuss progress on implementing the 2001 Programme of Action (PoA) on Small Arms.

The meeting focussed on several key topics within small arms control, including:

  • Reducing illicit arms brokering
  • Improving management of stockpiles
  • Strengthening international cooperation and assistance

In addition to discussing the PoA, the meeting also discussed implementation of the 2005 International Tracing Instrument.
