Guns are the weapons most widely used to kill women

Firearms were the weapons most widely used to kill women in 44 countries around the world, said the Third International Report on Partner Violence against Women. In 2006, over half of femicides in Croatia, Cyprus, Colombia, Honduras, Paraguay and Puerto Rico involved guns. The countries with the highest number of women killed per million women that same year were El Salvador, Guatemala, Lithuania, Colombia and Honduras. The Report, published by the Queen Sofia Centre, also presents 28 national laws combating partner violence which were enacted between 2004 and 2006. www.centroreinasofia.es
